Ignite Learning Academy Featured on Viewpoint with Dennis Quaid

Thursday, August 29, 2024

Executive producers of the documentary-style show, Viewpoint with Dennis Quaid, recently discovered the incredible work that was being done at Ignite Learning Academy—especially the work within the FIRE program serving students with special needs. During their research, they found no other special education program in the United States quite like it. Intrigued by the remarkable academic progress and achievements of the students, they were eager to delve deeper into our unique approach. They were shocked to discover that a program like this existed, and even more surprised to learn about our gifted program and our lively school community! The producers also loved hearing all about the adventures of Bruno and where he had traveled all over the world!

During Dr. Van Sande's (ILA’s founder) discussion with the executive producers, she discussed ILA and mentioned Ignite Achievement Academy, her in-person schools in Charlotte, NC, serving 100% students with disabilities. She highlighted the alignment between the in-person and online special education programs. Both featured small class sizes, personalized academic plans for each student, a dedicated emphasis on academic and social development, and a staff deeply committed to fostering relationships with every child to ensure their success.

In the end, the producers were captivated by the exceptional work of the teachers and staff at both IAA and ILA in all departments. As a result, they chose these schools to be the sole focus of a documentary airing late summer 2024 on Viewpoint with Dennis Quaid, reaching over 60 million households. Despite considering numerous schools for this opportunity, it was the outstanding results, compassionate staff, innovative programs, and unwavering dedication to the success of every child that led to the selection of IAA and ILA.

Film crews filmed on-site at our IAA Charlotte campus on May 9th. The segment included interviews from both ILA and IAA staff and was narrated in part by Dennis Quaid. The final segment can be viewed HERE and will be available for viewing on many national TV stations for the next year.
